I know that’s a quill but Quil, snipped from Neil McQuillian, has been my nickname since I was a kid. My angle’s that nominative determinism doesn’t sweat the odd typo.

The dartboard’s a nod to my very own Dead Poets Society moment. To convey the juicy satisfaction of finding the right word, my brilliant English teacher Mr Price drew ever-decreasing circles in the air with his forefinger before stabbing it into an invisible bullseye.

That’s how it still feels to me – a softly slotting thunk of rightness.
